What is Your Only Comfort? (LD 1; Luke 14:25-35) | 2010-2011 Catechism Sermons

We might say that a common sense way to influence people is by winning to your side the prestigious leaders and minds of the time. You see if influential people buy your idea then the idea then it has a great chance of becoming the norm. It is interesting that this is not at all what Christ does when he addresses the crowds, and the Pharisees. No, he actually rebukes them, and drives a wedge between him and them. Why is Christ laying out the hardship of discipleship if he is trying to win friends, and influence people? Why would we want to follow Christ if we have to bear a cross? How is this even remotely encouraging for us today? Well, please stay tuned to our sermon titled, “What is Your Only Comfort?”
