When we think of a gift we think of something that is freely given. However, when we look at Joshua commanding the tribes of Israel he commands the commanders, and they are commanded to fight. This is not a gift where they will merely receive the land, but we find here at the opening of the book that this will be war. How can the Lord do this? What is the purpose of this war?
