Suffering in Comfort (2 Corinthians 1:1-11)

If you asked someone about the measure of success they would probably talk about how much was accomplished in a lifetime. One would probably tally finished goals. The other thing would be how much good, profit, or amount of people benefited by those successful goals. One would not consider suffering as a mark of success. However, Paul cites his suffering almost as proof of his Apostolic call. How can this be a mark of success? How can this be encouraging?
